The Department of Geology and Geography at Auburn University invites applications for a nine-month appointment as a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Geography to begin August 16, 2010. Compensation includes salary and benefits. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses including World Regional Geography, Urban Geography, and other courses within the candidate’s regional and/or thematic specialization. A PhD or advanced ABD in geography is required. The Department has 12 faculty members and offers BA, BS, and MS degrees in Geography and Environmental Science, with a priority of developing a PhD program with a focus on human-environmental relationships. The Department of Geography at California State University, Northridge welcomes applications for a Tenure Track position at the Assistant Professor level from individuals trained in Geographical Information Systems, cartography, and related geospatial technologies
PhD in Geography required at time of appointment (evidence of degree(s) required at time of hire). Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in advanced applications of geospatial technologies such as spatial statistical methods, programming, enterprise GIS, web-based mapping applications, and applications of GIS in urban and regional planning; applied research and/or industry experience is desirable. There will be a reduced teaching load during the first two years of appointment.
We seek a geographer who will involve students in research projects, field work, and data analysis, who will mentor students in their senior thesis and master’s degree research, and generally prepare students for careers in the GIS profession.  The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to our Graduate GIS Certificate program, advise students, contribute to department, college, and university committees, participate in professional conferences, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and seek external grants.

Job Summary: The Department of Geography at the University of Denver is seeking a full-time lecturer with interests in sustainability and nature-society relations. The successful candidate will be expected to teach six quarter-length courses per year, composed of introductory courses in physical and human geography as well as intermediate and advanced courses in areas related to systematic interest. Director, Environmental Policy Research Program, Public Policy Center and Assistant or Associate Professor, Graduate Program in Urban and Regional Planning.
The University of Iowa Public Policy Center (PPC) and the Graduate Program in Urban and Regional Planning anticipate an opening for a tenure-track faculty position at the mid-career level (assistant or associate professor) beginning as soon as possible. The successful candidate must, at a minimum, have a PhD in environmental policy or planning or a related discipline, demonstrate substantial scholarly research and publication, and be able to teach courses and publish quality research in environmental planning and policy. Ideally this person will collaborate with some of the other world-class faculty on campus including faculty in environmental engineering, geography and environmental health. The position is envisioned to be 60% in the PPC as the Director of the Environmental Policy Research Program, and 40% in the Graduate Program in Urban and Regional Planning with a reduced teaching load of five courses every two years to provide protected research time to build a personal program of research.

Lecturer in Physical Geography, Department of Geography, University of Maryland. Duties: Position in the Department of Geography for a full-time 9 month lecturer in physical geography. This position is expected to start in the Fall 2010 semester or as soon as possible thereafter.  We seek a candidate who will provide expert undergraduate teaching support for the Geography Department.  The courses to be taught will be at the Freshman-Senior levels and may include, among others: Geography of Environmental Systems, Geomorphology, Biogeography, Climatology, and Hydrology.  
This is not a tenure track position, but is renewable contingent on funding and performance and it is anticipated that at least 3 years of support will be available. As part of the teaching load, the candidate will be expected to foster research with undergraduate students, and in the event the individual brings in research money to support this, the teaching load would be reduced accordingly. Visiting Assistant Professor of Geography or Anthropology. MINNESOTA, SAINT PAUL.
Post-Doctoral Research in Forest Resource Assessment. The USDA Forest Service is filling a post-doctoral position emphasizing forest resource assessment to start immediately. The position is administered by the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station, Forest Inventory and Analysis program (NRS-FIA; http://www.nrs.fs.fed.us/fia/) and funded by USEPA’s Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI; http://www.epa.gov/glnpo/glri/).
The incumbent will build and/or implement models linking forest status and land cover change data to indicators of Great Lakes water quality. Unit scientists are producing maps of historical forest disturbance and recovery from satellite path/rows encompassing the entire Great Lakes watershed using 30-m satellite data. The incumbent will develop appropriate models of lake water quality using plot-level and satellite-based products derived from FIA data. The research assignment encompasses modeling, estimation, and quality assurance research. The research emphasis is on linking land cover change biomass and disturbance maps produced under the NAFD project (http://www.geog.umd.edu/nacp.goward/) with water quality parameters at the state and regional levels. Work assignments may involve a number of ecological disciplines. The incumbent will work with FIA analysts to integrate model results into standard reporting documents.
The 2-year, post-doctoral position will be stationed in St. Paul, Minnesota. The published salary range starts at $60,827. The Department of Geography Education, Seoul National University, Korea, invites applications for one full-time tenure-track position in (Sustainable) Human-Environmental Geography, rank open, beginning March 2011. The department offers BA, MA, and PhD degrees in geography and geography education. Teaching responsibilities include 2 courses per semester, including one undergraduate level course in Environmental Geography Education and one graduate level course in his/her specialty area. Lectures will be conducted in English. Native-level competence in oral and written English is required for this position.

SWITZERLAND, ZURICH.
The University of Zurich invites applications for the position of Full or Associate Professor of Physical Geography. We seek outstanding applicants with a clearly demonstrable record of excellence in research and teaching in glaciology and/or geomorphology. Applications are particularly encouraged from the fields of glacial and periglacial geomorphology, landscape change and evolution, climate change impacts, and natural hazard research. A focus on processes in high mountain regions would be an asset.
The successful candidate will lead one of the units of the Department of Geography and is expected to develop a strong, independent research program and manage and deliver graduate and undergraduate teaching (in English or German) within the above area of specialization. We seek evidence of the ability to attract and direct substantial research projects and to collaborate with colleagues both within and beyond the discipline. Experience in collaboration with and knowledge transfer to political authorities is considered advantageous.
The Department of Geography of the University of Zurich is the largest of its kind in Switzerland, with an excellent reputation for research and teaching.
