Abstract:
The use of Google SketchUp with traditional GIS software, e.g., ArcGIS, has enabled cartographers to easily create very dramatic 3D representations - particularly for facilities mapping and historic reconstructions. This presentation will cover the use of Google SketchUp in recent McDonough County, IL mapping projects including the benefits and challenges of integrating the software with GIS mapping applications. The projects include facilities mapping for Western Illinois University and the City of Macomb, IL, a reconstruction of an abandoned town, and a reconstruction of a past industrial facility
