Abstract:
Tuscany has a log and proud tradition of wine production with the Sangiovese grape being king of the hill. In the 1960's and 70's, the region sank into mediocrity with cheap wines i wicker bottles destined for predestrial meals on red and white checkered table cloths in cheap Italian restaurants. The days of $1.99 bottles is fortunately in the past and the area have reinvented itself with quality production culminating in Brunello di Montalcino that can sell for hundreds of dollars per bottle. In addition, the Super Tuscans have arrived on the scene, composed of different grape varioety and blend than are tradition for the region. Trends in grape production and wine production are examined in terms of the terroir and market conditions.
