Session Description: E-commerce (IT facilitated business transactions) is a fundamental part of the globalizing twenty-first century economy, and increasingly plays an important role in shaping flows of commodities, capital, and knowledge.

The purposes of this session are to both think about the ways that e-commerce is reorganizing economic geographies, and to explore how e-commerce is shaping and reshaping economic development. Government agencies at all levels, the private sector, academics, and other commentators frequently view e-commerce as a way to spur economic development and facilitate economic growth.  As a result, e-commerce policies and e-commerce activities have been adopted into a range of tangible programs and plans which are designed to promote economic growth and development in both the public and private sector, at a variety of scales.
