Florida International University, Department of Global and Sociocultural Studies, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Human Geography at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 2009.  PhD in geography required, but advanced ABD candidates will receive consideration. The GSS Department is newly formed (effective January 2009) and a key part of a major initiative to launch a new School of International and Public Affairs. The Department is an interdisciplinary unit comprised of geographers, anthropologists, and sociologists and offers two BA degrees (geography and anthropology/sociology) and inter-disciplinary MA and PhD degrees.  The successful candidate is expected to contribute both to the expansion of the geography curriculum and the Department’s interdisciplinary mission, particularly in the doctoral program. Postdoctoral Fellowship Social Sciences and Humanities, 2009-10.

As part of this initiative, the University of South Florida is pleased to announce a new Postdoctoral Fellowship program beginning with the social sciences and humanities in 2009-10. Postdoctoral Fellows will: (i) contribute to one or more of the priority goals of the strategic plan; (ii) work closely with distinguished faculty; (iii) participate in interdisciplinary and programmatic seminar series; (iv) teach one course each semester; (v) continue to build an independent research record and engage in publishing refereed articles and creative scholarship; and (vi) seek external funding. 
Postdoctoral Fellowship: Several postdoctoral fellowships will be awarded in the 2009-10 academic year with appointments beginning August 7th 2009. Appointments are for full time employment (40 hours per week) and are renewable for an additional academic year subject to satisfactory progress. Salary is $45,000 and the University offers subsidized health insurance.  Support for travel to academic conferences will be available.  Fellows will be responsible for relocation and housing expenses.
Eligibility: Applicants must have a doctoral degree in one of the following disciplines: Anthropology, Communication, English, Geography, or Philosophy, or an affiliated program, earned no earlier than 2005. Candidates who will have successfully defended their dissertations by May 1, 2009 will also be considered. It is expected that applicants will have had no more than two years of formal postdoctoral experience. Applicants must have received their doctoral degree from an institution other than the University of South Florida.

IDAHO, MOSCOW.
Two Tenure-track Assistant Professor positions -- Climate Science and Regional Planning/Human Impacts of Climate Change.  The Department of Geography at the University of Idaho is leading a state-wide initiative on the science and human dimensions of climate change in the intermountain west, and adding two positions to begin in August 2009.   Both new faculty will join a team of researchers in the department and throughout the state with interests in the biophysical and human impacts of climate change in our region.  These positions will serve departmental degree programs (B.S., M.S., and PhD) and several interdisciplinary programs at the University of Idaho, including Environmental Science, Bioregional Planning, and Water Resources.
Climatologist - Required qualifications include a PhD (or expected by June 15, 2009) in climatology, geography, hydroclimatology, atmospheric science or related field.  Preferred qualifications include the ability to understand and utilize output from regional and global climate models and the ability to collaborate across disciplines on climate-related issues, particularly as they relate to snow pack and runoff in mountainous areas.
Regional science/planner - Required qualifications include a PhD (or expected by June 15, 2009) in geography, regional science, planning or related field, with the ability to analyze effects of climate change on the regional economy.  The successful applicant will combine regional economic analysis and spatial dimensions of climate change to provide guidance to the region’s policy makers, local communities, and industries for their planning and adaptation to climate change.

Northern Illinois University, Department of Geography.  The Department of Geography invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor starting August 2009.  PhD in geography or related field required by time of appointment.  We seek a health/medical geographer with the ability to 1) bridge department strengths in GIS and spatial analysis with undergraduate and graduate curricula in public health and allied health sciences and 2) contribute to expanding university programs in informatics, health care and the health related sciences.  Skills in modern geospatial analysis and technologies are required.  Teaching responsibilities will include upper division and graduate courses in specialty area, a lower-division general education course, and electives serving the geography major or Certificates in GIS and Homeland Security.  Consideration will be given to candidates with the ability to contribute to regional/multicultural geography.  The successful candidate is expected to seek external funding in support of scholarship.

The International Forestry Resources and Institutions (IFRI) Network is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow to help coordinate its research, data collection, and networking activities.  The IFRI network comprises a group of approximately 50 researchers interested in forestry, livelihood, and governance. Currently the program is coordinated through the School of Natural Resources and Environment at the University of Michigan and the Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis at Indiana University. Collaborating research centers are located in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, India, Nepal, Thailand, Bolivia, Columbia, Guatemala, and Mexico. The Fellowship will involve some travel, and close coordination with Arun Agrawal (the network coordinator), and other IFRI network researchers. It will lead to approximately 50% of the fellow's time being available for research, and 50% of time being committed to IFRI-related activities. The position will be based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  The selected candidate will have a strong background in forestry-related issues in developing countries, demonstrate evidence of ability to publish independently, and be able to work with survey data.
